Managing SCBA events

Set up inspections, testing, and repair events for your SCBA equipment.

Summary

SCBA events in PSTrax are the different types of inspections or activities performed on your SCBA gear—such as routine inspections, air fills, flow tests, and repairs. Administrators can customize these events to match departmental needs, add tasks for users to complete, and schedule recurring inspections to ensure compliance with NFPA and internal standards.

Instructions

SCBA events can be accessed and managed by going to Settings → SCBA → Events in the navigation panel. PSTrax comes preloaded with standard events that can be edited or expanded. Tasks can be added to events to guide users during inspections. Scheduled events appear in the SCBA card on the home page when due, while others can be logged as needed.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Access SCBA Events

  1. Go to Settings → SCBA → Events.

  2. Review the preloaded SCBA events: Routine Inspection, Air Fill, Flow Test, Hydro Test, and Repair.

Add or Edit an Event

  1. Click Add Event at the top of the page to create a new event (e.g., Battery Replacement or FIT Test).

  2. Use the dropdown next to an existing event to:

    • Edit: Adjust settings like admin-only status, enable backdating, require costs, or display a check-all box.

    • Copy: Duplicate an event if you want to create a similar one.

    • Delete: Remove an event that doesn't apply.

Manage Tasks for Events

  1. For events with checklists (like Routine Inspection), click the dropdown next to the event and select Add Task to create a new task.

  2. To edit a task, click Edit next to the task name and:

    • Add task details.

    • Require notes if necessary.

    • Disable or delete tasks that don’t apply.

Schedule Events

  1. Navigate to Settings → SCBA → Set Event Intervals.

  2. Set intervals for recurring inspections (e.g., every 6 months for battery replacements, yearly for FIT tests).

  3. You can also assign specific due dates for one-time inspections.

Where Events Appear

  • Routine Inspections are typically tied to apparatus checks and show during SCBA truck checks.

  • Other events like Flow Tests or Hydro Tests will display on the SCBA card in the Schedule section once they’re due.

Auto-populate previous gear

When performing an SCBA on-truck check, each position is pre-filled with the gear that was logged there previously. This is designed so that crew members don't have to select their gear each check; they only select a new piece of equipment if the pre-filled item isn't there anymore (e.g. a cylinder that moved after a call, a pack that got taken out-of-service, etc.).

While this setting makes it quicker for users to log their SCBA checks, some agencies prefer to shut off the pre-filled selection and require crew members to select their equipment each time they check it off, ensuring that they actually look at the equipment prior to logging it.
