Managing blood products
Set up the information you'd like to track on your blood product types (whole blood, packed red blood cells, plasma).
Summary
This feature allows a PSTrax Administrator to configure the specific blood product types stocked by the agency, such as Whole Blood and Plasma, and customize the fields used to track them during logs and inspections. By managing product names, enabling/disabling types, and setting up standard and custom data fields, you ensure accurate and compliant tracking of all blood product inventory, including expiration dates and identifying information for Crew Members and alert recipients.
Instructions
To manage blood product configurations, navigate to the Settings → Blood Products → Manage Blood Products section. From here, you can enable or disable the product types your agency stocks and modify their labels. You will also customize five standard fields—ID number, Expiration Date, Product Code, Blood Type, and Cost—by adjusting their labels, requirements, and available options. Finally, you can create any necessary custom fields to track additional information not covered by the standard options.

Accessing Blood Product Settings

Navigate to Settings → Blood Products → Manage Blood Products.

Configuring Product Types

Enable or disable the product types listed (Whole Blood, Packed Red Blood Cells, Plasma, Platelets) based on what your agency stocks.

Expand a product type to change its label. For example, you can rename "Whole Blood" to "L T O W B."

Set an alert by entering a number of days prior to expiration. This ensures an alert recipient is notified when a product is nearing its exchange date.

Customizing Standard Fields
PSTrax provides five standard fields for tracking blood products: ID number, Expiration Date, Product Code, Blood Type, and Cost.

ID Number Field

Expand the field to change its label, such as renaming it to "DIN."

Select the Required checkbox if a value must be entered when logging a product.

Select the checkbox to enable searching the product via barcode if necessary.

Click Save.

Blood Type Field

Click Show options to view the available blood types.

Disable any options your agency does not stock (e.g., disable all except O positive or O negative).

Click Save.

Cost Field

The Cost field is usually disabled by default. Enable it if you wish to track the cost of each blood product bag.

Creating Custom Fields

Click Add New Field to track information not covered by the standard fields.

Enter the label for the new field (e.g., "Rotate Date").

Select the Required checkbox if necessary.

Select the appropriate Field Type (e.g., Date field, Text field).

Click Save to add the custom field to your system. The fields that are enabled and required will be presented to users when restocking blood products.
