Managing blood products containers
Set up blood products coolers / refrigerators, assign product types, and set par levels.
Summary
This article explains how to configure containers within the Blood Products module in PSTrax. Containers act as storage units, such as coolers or refrigerators, used to house and track blood products while they are in your possession. This process allows you to define where products are stored, set inventory levels, and configure temperature monitoring parameters.
Instructions
Setting up a container involves naming the storage unit and assigning it to a specific location, such as a station or a vehicle. Once the container is created, you will define which blood product types are stocked within it, including minimum and maximum inventory levels. Finally, you will configure the thermometers associated with the container to ensure temperature readings stay within safe ranges.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Add a Container
-
Navigate to Settings → Blood Products → Manage Containers.
-
Enter the name of the container (e.g., EMS Supervisor 3).
-
Assign the container to a location using the dropdown menu:
-
Station: Select this if the container remains at a specific facility.
-
Unit: Select this if the container moves with a specific vehicle.
-
-
(Optional) Check Display all stations if you want the container to appear in lists across all locations, regardless of its assignment.
-
Click Add to create the container.
Assign Products
-
Locate the newly created container in the list and click Assign Product.
-
Select the Blood Product Type (e.g., Low Titer O Positive).
-
Set the Min Amount and Max Amount for stock levels.
-
Click Assign. Repeat this process for any other products stored in this container.
Note: You can physically exceed the configured Max Amount in the system, but doing so will trigger an overstocked alert.
Add Thermometers
-
Click Add Thermometer within the container settings.
-
Enter the name or description of the device (e.g., Temp Stick).
-
Select the unit of measure (usually degrees Celsius).
-
Set the Min and Max temperature range (e.g., 1 to 6).
-
Click Add. Multiple thermometers may be added to a single container if necessary.
